COVID-19 Updates

from fathers desk

We are pleased to announce the Family Catachesis model for our Parish Religious Education Program (P.R.E.P.)

What is Family Catechesis?

We all know what the word family means even if it may look different due to varying circumstances. This brings us to the second part of the term “Catechesis”. What does catechesis mean? “Catechesis means to reecho what Christ has taught. Catechesis, therefore, is the handing on of Jesus’ teaching which was given to the apostles (the Deposit of Faith) and transmitted through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition” (Pope John Paul II, Fidei Depositum 3). In a sense Family Catechesis is doing catechesis (handing on the faith) in the context of the family. In this model we see the restoration of the role of parents as the primary catechists and the parish to its intended role of the support system for the parents and their children.

Why are we doing it?

Family Catechesis...

  • Helps families learn how to pray and to discuss their faith together
  • Helps parents better understand their role as primary catechists

  • Brings families together in order to share and deepen their Catholic faith

  • Strengthens the relationship between the family and the Church

  • Establishes ongoing Catholic faith practices within the family life

  • Integrates the family into the parish community

How can I help?

We are in need of volunteer catechists for 3rd & 5th grade. We also have a major need for our Confirmation program. We need 10 volunteers who are willing to walk alongside our students in the confirmation program. This would not require any teaching or preparation other than praying for those in your small group of 6-10 students. As an incentive, parents who volunteer will not be required to contribute financially to our Family Faith Formation program; we will request that you make a $25 donation (equivalent to book fees)*. Please take 5 minutes to pray about it and if Jesus is inviting you to join us as a volunteer catechist I hope you will respond accordingly and reach out to me (John -  This email address is being protected from spambots. *Please note that we are attempting to change the language of tuition and fees. We want to transition away from a "consumer" mindset that may lead us to think of some even exchange of goods and services. Our hope is that you see family faith formation as something worthy of contributing towards to continue the passing on of the faith not just to your family, but for generations to come.
