Dear Parish Members,
Week two of Lent is underway, and I hope your journey to greater freedom and renewing your trust in God has gotten off to a strong start. We are walking with the book, Rebuilt Faith, and learning about the S.T.E.P.S. to take in growing with God, renewing our trust in Christ, and receiving the gift of His grace to rebuild our faith. Lent, that great time of renewal, is underway. My prayers go with you as we seek renewal together.
This week, our focus is on “T” - for tithe and give. It is also kick-off weekend for the Annual Catholic Appeal - great timing! Thanks, Holy Spirit! Our Diocese of Trenton is a great collaborator in the work of ministry. Check out the video to witness the beautiful ways together we nurture the greater church. With them we are building up the Body of Christ.
Thank you for your stewardship to our parish and for your support of greater causes through the Annual Catholic Appeal and other charities.
May God bless your generosity!
Fr. Joel
QUOTES
Ignatius of Loyola says,
“God will not be outdone in generosity.” God loves and so he gives. Same for us. p. 88-91
“When we worry about money and possessions, we act like practical atheists.” Instead, seek first the Kingdom of God.
“Be generous with your money. Use your money for the benefit of others. Give away money so that other people come to know Christ. Wise people build their lives on what is eternal and squeeze in what is temporary.” p. 107
“The widow gave all of her offering from her substance. The wealthy that Jesus observed had given from their surplus. It cost the widow far more to give as she did, powerfully demonstrating her dependence on and trust in God.” p. 111
Chapter 3 Reflection Questions:
- Do you find it easy to believe that God is generous? Why or why not? (p. 91)
- When has your heart been moved because of how you spend your money? (p. 103)
- How can you remind yourself that your money and possessions are temporary and not eternal? (p. 108)
- What charities do you currently support? Why do you support them? (p. 120)
